Upgrading your EB license to an EA License

To upgrade you CA smog check technician license, you must meet the requirements set out by the Bureau of Automotive Repairs. The information you need to know is here. There are two versions of this information to help you - Steve's simplified version and the BAR version. We also have a book (Smog Refresher Course) that will help you pass the test.

Upgrade EB to EA:

• EB License current or not expired for more than 1 year
• A6 Electrical from ASE or BAR approved A6 Alternative within the last 5 years
• A8 Engine Performance from ASE or BAR approved A8 Alternative within the last 5 years
• L1 Advanced Engine Performance from ASE or BAR approved L1 Alternative within the last 5 years
• Enhanced Clean Air Car course within the last 2 years
• 2003 Update training
• Take the exam
